Welcome to LICKBARROW LODGE, WINDERMERE,
an Arts and Crafts House
BED & BREAKFAST and SELF-CATERING ACCOMMODATION
in the heart of the
LAKE DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK
Lickbarrow Lodge is
a country house at the edge of a private, five-acre woodland, on a quiet lane just 1 mile from Windermere and Bowness villages
and an easy, 20-minute drive from the motorway. The house, built in 1912, was designed by a renowned Arts and Crafts
architect and has been recently renovated. The owners, Adrian and Elizabeth Legge, have been most careful to preserve
and enhance the original Arts and Crafts features, the hallmarks of which are simple design, beautiful materials and fine
craftsmanship. Lickbarrow Lodge is not an hotel, nor a guest-house - the house is our family home in which we offer
the choice of Self-Catering or Bed and Breakfast accommodation in either the unique self-contained Studio apartment
or the charming guest-room. Breakfast is served at the large oak table in the Library where, in cooler weather, we light a
log fire. We have plenty of parking space.
Guests are very welcome
to explore the sunny glades and winding pathways in our very secluded private woodland. Nearer the house, the
garden offers views of The Old Man of Coniston, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell and the Langdale Pikes and, just a short stroll away,
footpaths take you to local viewpoints for magnificent Lakeland panoramas and stunning mountain sunsets.
Lickbarrow Lodge is situated at 165 metres above sea-level, yet both Windermere and
Bowness villages are just a 20-minute walk away. We have a wide knowledge of the Lake District National Park - Adrian
is a Mountain Leader and local guide, so we can offer advice on things to do and places to go, including our favourite restaurants
and Lakeland pubs and we can suggest touring or walking itineraries for each day of your stay, such as a Beatrix Potter trail
or Wordsworth's Lake District. We aim to help you make the most of your visit to the Lake District - the most beautiful
corner of England.
